History

From its early years in Boston, to Watertown, MA in 1940, and eventually to Hanson, on Massachusetts' south shore, in 1974, Litecontrol has always maintained a leadership role through product innovation and responsiveness to customer demands in the lighting industry. A second facility in Plympton, MA was purchased in 1995 and the company now has over 200 employee-owners and operates two fully integrated manufacturing facilities totaling 450,000 square feet.

1930's 

  • Litecontrol was founded in Boston in 1936.
  • Irving Jennings, President & Wallace Danforth, Treasurer.
  • Manufactured incandescent and showroom fixtures.

1940's

  • Manufactured switch boxes for Navy destroyers and submarines during WW II.
  • Introduced recessed & surface lensed fixtures.
  • Developed fixtures for F. W. Woolworth, our first big customer.
  • Became the first Holophane lens licensee.
  • Slogan: "Keep Upkeep Down".

  • Introduced first school fixtures.
  • Provided Luminous Ceiling Calculator developed by Professor Parry Moon and Dr. Domina Spencer.

1960's

  • New ownership by sons of founders: Robert Danforth and Charles Jennings.
  • First company to offer fixture colors (LiteColors™).
  • Introduced first architectural products: Mod-66™and Wall/Slot® fixtures.
  • Our first diversification effort: Sun/Tec radiant heating panels. Not a big hit.
  • Introduced first library stacklight.

  • Purchased and moved into Hanson facility.
  • Expanded LiteColors to 16.
  • Our second diversification effort: HotPot ski waxer. Even less of a hit. Need a waxer?
  • Robert Danforth became sole owner.
  • Expanded from a regional to a national company.

  • Introduced first "Inde-Pendants™" fixture - Scion™.
  • Introduced SAE Systems™ (Simple-Affordable-Efficient).
  • Purchased Plympton facility.
  • Opened Litecenter™.
  • Veda Ferlazzo Clark, President.
  • Litecontrol became an employee-owned Company.
